Starting in January 2012, Ed Lorhenz, B.E.S., CGD of Geo-Xergy Systems will be teaching a 10-session workshop series on designing geo-exchange (geothermal) systems through the Buller Centre for Business

This workshop series is presented in co-operation with the Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance (MGEA). It is authorized by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) and the Association for Energy Engineers (AEE). Completion of the series allows participants to write the certification exam for Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD®) accreditation.

Sessions wil run one evening a week for 10 weeks. Each workshop lasts two hours. Participants can attend sessions either in-person on the Providence campus, or through Providence’s eProv interactive distance education system.

This workshop series is designed for engineers and contractors involved in designing and/or installing large commercial geothermal heating and cooling systems. Experience in commercial HVAC system design or installation is strongly recommended.

The series is built around a design process that is used to optimize the design of a geothermal system, help you develop a quality assurance/quality control program to ensure the system is installed as designed, and commissioned to work as designed.

Ed Lohrenz has 30 years experience in the geothermal industry, across Canada, in the U.S., and internationally.

Recent projects include the Steinbach Credit Union building on Lagimodiere Boulevard in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the IKEA store in Centennial, Colorado.

The Credit Union project is the largest privately-funded geothermal project in Manitoba (at least to date). The IKEA project is notable both for its size (415,000 square feet of retail space) and for the integration of the geothermal system with other energy-saving innovations.

Ed has helped develop training courses for the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) and the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC), and has conducted workshops in 5 countries.
The total cost for this workshop series is $1,950 Canadian. This cost includes:

• The purchase of $600 in materials from the AEE including written materials, a CD-ROM, and access to their online webinar. These are all the materials needed for participants considering writing the AEE exam for CGD designation.
• Access for the final six weeks of the course to GLD (Ground-Loop Design) Software. This is the industry-standard design software, and retails for $3,500.
• The cost of using the eProv interactive distance education technology.
• 5% GST.*
